Well look who turned up at Comic along with Steven -
Brittney Powell and Adrienne Wilkinson!
Steve was there to interview Kevin J. Anderson and
was having a great time. Sharon Delaney reported on the
Official Xena Fan Club Page that Steve was also at the
Spartacus panel (in the audience).
I'm hoping Steve has lots of his great photos to share from
the event.

The following is from Steven Sears about his
new job with Cookie Jar which was reported on AUSXIP on
01 May 2009:
Steven writes:
I'm not at liberty to
discuss specifics about the projects yet but I can say that
I have a three pilot deal with Cookie Jar. Two of them are
animation series and one is a live action series. And the
live action series is a fantasy adventure which is the most
bizarre thing I have ever written. People who have read the
opening teaser for the script have all responded with "WTF????"
:)
Although I have been
contracted to write these projects, we don't have a network
yet. We're just now starting to take them out to the various
networks to try and sell them. So far, I have written full
bibles and pilot script outlines for the series.
Cookie Jar is a great
company to be with. When I had my first meeting, I hit it
off immediately with the executives and the President of the
company. I was originally just there to pitch one live
action series, but we got along so well that a discussion of
other projects came up and that's how I ended up with the
three.
A lot of people don't know
who Cookie Jar is, but the will. This is a young company
that is investing a lot of money into creating prime time
material. They are already well known in the world of
children's programming and, when they merged with DiC,
became one of the largest suppliers in that market. Now they
want to make a big move and I am lucky enough to be in at
the beginning of that move.
It's also good to know
that several friends of mine have also secured deals wtih
Cookie Jar. Tony Blake & Paul Jackson are long time friends;
we've worked together and hang out socially. Gillian Horvath
is a great writer and friend whom I've known since she was
my writer's assistant on Raven! She is working with The Jar
now.
We'll see where it goes.
Again, anything can happen. The only thing I can
definitively say is that the press reports are correct; I do
have an existing deal with Cookie Jar and it involves three
pilot scripts and series. We still have to sell them to a
network before anyone's going to see them, though!
Stay tuned....

Steven's New Series - Strangers in
Paradise
Steven announced at the Xena con this
weekend that he and I are working together to bring
Strangers in Paradise to television… and
he’s right! That was our coming out announcement. I’ve known
Steven for years… well, we met when I did the SiP-Xena issue

WGA Strike News
It's over! After 100 days of strike action, the WGA
members have agreed to go back to work after a hard won
victory! Xena Fans should be exceptionally proud of the
efforts during the Xenaverse Refreshes Campaign and the
Xena Day March. This is just fantastic news (and now we
can see some new episodes of our favourite shows and of
course Renee in the second season of Army Wives!)
The LA Times has the news of the victory for the
writers!
Speaking of the Xenaverse Refreshes Campaign - you all
have raised $2,005 in response to our appeal. It was an
amazing effort and I thank you all for contributing and
making it a success. Thanks also goes to the Xenaverse
Drop Off Elf who worked really hard to deliver the
goodies to the strikers every week. Not an easy job but
one done with such a great spirit and a great deal of
organisational skill!
We have $400 left over now that the strike is over -
that money will be given to a charity chosen by
Katherine and Steven and it will be announced here once
that is decided.
Thank you all again for doing what Xena fans do when
needed - pitching in for the Greater Good.

2008 Burbank Convention
Audio
For many fans Steven Sears is known as a writer, exec
producer and all round nice guy who has alot of time for
fans (it's a very common sight to see Steve surrounded
by fans at any convention). What is less known is that
he can sing. During the Burbank convention cabaret,
Steve sang a couple of songs - one of them is my all
time favourite - Hallelujah - written by Leonard Cohen
and performed by many including kd lang. Unfortunately I
missed the cabaret and didn't hear Steven's version of
Hallelujah until afterwards. There is a
youtube
video of Steve's performance (tsk tsk but I'm really
glad someone did) After watching the clip, it became
another favourite rendition of the song - kd lang and
Steven Sears.
Steven has graciously agreed to allow me to add the
mp3 files to the site - these are not from the Creation
event but were created by Steven for his own use.

Xenaverse Refreshes Campaign

Another Xenaverse Refreshes Campaign drop was undertaken
before I left Los Angeles by the Drop Off Elf. Here's a pic
of the goodies that were donated to the strikers.
I want to thank everyone who has contributed to the campaign
fund - your generosity is mind blowing! The writers (of all
shows who are at the Disney gate) wanted me to tell you all
how much they appreciated the goodies that the Xena fans
have provided. They wanted me to convey their appreciation
to all the fans. I was marching with them three weeks ago
and they couldn't believe that Xena fans are supporting them
because of Katherine, RJ, Liz, Steven and others who have
worked on a show that has been dead for 7 years.
Xena Fans March in Support of the Writers - Through Rain,
Hail and Shine…
Report by MaryD
Before I left for Burbank to join the Xena March, Steven
Sears sent me an email about the latest update about the
march to alert everyone on the weather conditions. I
remember writing back to him saying… “through rain, hail or
shine, we will be there” – I didn’t think it would literally
come true that all three would come true! What an amazing
day – over 200 Xenites walked up and down the footpath
outside NBC studios...read
